Daytona Nibbles: Jamie McMurray Gives a Nod to the Past and Starts a New Chapter

Jamie McMurray, 2010 DAYTONA 500 champion, will take to the high banks during DAYTONA Speedweeks Presented By AdventHealth behind the wheel of the No. 40 Chevrolet of Spire Motorsports in partnership with Chip Ganassi Racing. The No. 40 is a nod to McMurray’s first car number in the Monster Energy Series when he took over driving duties for an injured Sterling Marlin to finish out the final six races of the 2002 season and captured his first career premiere series win in only his second start. That success led to a full-time ride with Chip Ganassi Racing as Marlin’s teammate the following year. “The Great American Race” and the events leading up to it – including Sunday’s Advance Auto Parts Clash – are currently the only races on McMurray’s schedule for the 2019 season as he begins a new endeavor as an analyst for FOX Sports’ pre-race show, “NASCAR RaceDay,” and their midweek show, “NASCAR Race Hub.”
