Thunder Road Begins 64th Season of Weekly Racing with Annual Friday Night Special on June 9th

Barre, VT — This Friday, June 9th returns the promise of weekly asphalt short track racing to Central Vermont race fans and those who tune in around the world on FloRacing with Vermont Career Technical Centers Night presented by the Vermont Agency of Education. The annual Friday Night Special will be headlined by the return of the New England Supermodifed Series (NESS) and the return of the Myers Container Service Triple Crown Series for the Lenny’s Shoe & Apparel Flying Tigers.

With the 2023 season already underway, the weekly grind begins for the three point-counting Thunder Road divisions. For the Lenny’s Shoe & Apparel Flying Tigers, Friday brings the first of three high-stress nights as drivers attempt to balance their Track Championship standings while beating out the other guy to top the Myers Container Service Triple Crown Series. Now in its seventh annual season, the Myers Triple Crown has been a bucket list win for Flying Tiger teams as they battle in the extra-distance showdowns but also for the Crown itself, with no one driver able to take two championships in the series’ existence.

The return of the New England Supermodified Series (NESS) will be a lightning-fast 75-lap affair for the winged rockets that are coming from all over the Northeast. Among the expected entries, defending and inaugural NESS champion Rob Summers from Connecticut and Massachuesetts Modified standouts Anthony Nocella and Matt Swanson. Longtime open-wheeled ace Russ Wood from New Hampshire and Maine’s Bobby Timmons are also among the expected teams ready to take on the infamous Thunder Road highbanks once again.

After Nick Sweet stole away the Memorial Day Classic, the Maplewood/Irving Late Models have been digging through their notebooks to find speed, many hoping the 50-lap sprint distance will be in their favor come Friday night. The rk Miles Street Stocks are facing an interesting start to the season as their 2022 average car count of 30+ teams per event continues in ‘23. Fan-favorite Juan ‘Paco’ Marshall has a strong lead over former champion Jeffrey Martin and sophomore Cam Powers with Friday’s 25-lap main event again expected to be one of the highlights of the weekly season opener. The Burnett Scrap Metals Road Warriors will also be on the card as their four-cylinder numbers continue to grow for 2023.

The 64th season of stock car racing at Thunder Road continues in less than two weeks with Vermont’s Career Technical Education Centers and the Agency of Education Night on Friday, June 9th. The annual Friday Night Special will feature the return of the New England Supermodified Series (NESS) and Round #1 of the Myers Container Service Flying Tiger Triple Crown Series. The Maplewood/Irving Late Models, rk Miles Street Stocks and Burnett Scrap Metal Road Warriors also join in to kick off the weekly summer racing series! Post Time is set for 7:00pm with Adult General Admission set at $20, Children ages 12-6 for $5 and Kids 5-and-under free! A Family Four Pass, two adults and two kids, is also available for $40.
