TAMFORD, Conn. – Jan. 4, 2024 – Nightly coverage of the 12-stage 2024 Dakar Rally — the world’s most challenging off-road endurance race — begins this Friday, January 5, at 7:30 p.m. ET on Peacock and continues through Sunday, January 15. Highlights from all classes as well as racer interviews will be available on Peacock and NBC Sports digital platforms.
More than 700 competitors across seven classes will race across 3,000+ miles of varying terrain, including desert, canyons, dunes and mountains throughout Saudi Arabia. This will mark the fifth time that the country has hosted the race. This will be the 46th edition of the race; the inaugural competition in 1979 began in Paris, France, and finished in Dakar, Senegal.
An elite group of U.S. racers are expected to compete this year, headlined by two-time Dakar Rally champion Austin Jones and Ricky Brabec who, in 2020, became the first American to ever win the motorcycle division of the Dakar Rally.
Other notable riders include Seth Quintero, who holds the record for most number of stage wins in a single Dakar (12, 2022), and is moving up to the main cars class to take on legends Nasser Al-Attiyah, Carlos Sainz, Stephane Peterhansel, and Sebastien Loeb. 2023 Dakar Rally third-place bike finisher Skyler Howes is back with a new team, while Mitchell Guthrie looks to challenge fellow countryman Jones in the T3 category, while Sara Price makes her Dakar debut in the T4 class.
On the international side, two-time and defending Dakar Rally bike winner Kevin Benavides (Argentina), his brother and reigning World Rally-Raid Champion Luciano Benavides (Argentina) and two-time Dakar Rally bike champions Toby Price (Australia) and Sam Sunderland (Great Britain) are all expected to ride.
