Season 11 of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship commenced today with a thrilling spectacle at São Paulo’s Sambadrome circuit. The race saw Mitch Evans (Jaguar TCS Racing) claim victory having started from the back of the grid. An attritional contest, twice halted by red flags, with only 15 of the 22 starters reaching the finish line, provided the backdrop for Evans’ sensational charge through the field.
With Antonio Felix da Costa (Tag Heuer Porsche) finishing in second place and rookie driver Taylor Barnard (NEOM McLaren) in third, the battles for both the drivers’ and constructors’ championships look to have picked up where the thrilling finale to Season 10 left off.
The ABB Engineered To Outrun Award – recognizing the driver and engineer who successfully balance pace, skill, efficiency and teamwork to make up the most positions on track during each round – was of course awarded to Evans, following his impressive 1st place finish from 22nd on the grid.

Following the festive break, the championship heads to Mexico City for the Round 2 on the 11th of January.
