Tight NASCAR Canada Series Championship Battle Shifts West for the NAPA 300 At Edmonton International Raceway

(Wetaskiwin, AB), July 9, 2025 – The NASCAR Canada Series heads west this week for the NAPA 300 at Edmonton International Raceway, marking the first stop of the Western leg of the season. This Saturday, July 12, drivers will take on the tight one-quarter mile asphalt oval for 300 laps of high-intensity racing.

Last year’s event was a dominant showing by Kevin Lacroix, who swept the day by setting the fastest time in practice, taking pole position, and securing the race win in the No. 74 Adaptive One Calipers / NAPA Racing Chevrolet. He returns to Edmonton International Raceway as a strong contender once again.

This year’s race is shaping up to be just as competitive. D.J. Kennington, behind the wheel of the No. 17 Castrol Edge / Brimstone Games / CIM Metals Dodge, currently leads the championship standings by a single point over Marc-Antoine Camirand, driver of the No. 96 GM Paillé Chevrolet. Camirand knows his way around Edmonton as he claimed back-to-back victories at the track in 2022 and 2023.

Returning to a familiar circuit is Andrew Ranger in the No. 27 GM Paillé Chevrolet, a two-time winner at Edmonton International Raceway in 2014 and 2019, and Louis-Philippe Dumoulin, in the No. 47 WeatherTech Canada / Groupe Bellemare Dodge, who also captured a win in 2018.

NASCAR Canada SeriesRyan Vargas, fresh off his first Canadian podium at Riverside International Speedway, continues his debut season in the series behind the No. 28 Critical Path Security Canada Dodge. The grid also features Jason Hathaway in the No. 3 Leland / Sangsin Brakes / Fast Eddie / HGC Chevrolet, Donald Theetge in the No. 80 St-Hubert / UPS Store / Bet GRW Chevrolet, and Mathieu Kingsbury in the No. 9 Duroking / BFL Canada Chevrolet.

Set to compete for the first time this season are Saskatchewan-based drivers, Rob Naismith in the No. 10 and Matthew Shirley in the No. 46. Joining them on track is Brian Cathcart, who will be behind the wheel of the No. 04 this Saturday at the NAPA 300.

“With only one point separating the top two drivers, every lap matters. Fans can expect close racing and an exciting battle for the championship.” said Alan Labrosse, General Manager of the NASCAR Canada Series.

On-track activities for the NASCAR Canada Series race weekend will kick off Saturday with practice at 12:35 p.m. MT, followed by qualifying at 4:50 p.m. MT. The green flag for the NAPA 300 is set to wave at 7:45 p.m. MT. Fans can catch the action live on REV TV and TVA Sports, with tape-delayed coverage available on TSN.
