Flying Lizard Motorsports Braves Storms, Scores BMW Victory at VIR

ALTON, Va. (July 22, 2025) – Flying Lizard Motorsports took on a challenging four-race weekend at VIRginia International Raceway, competing in both the McLaren Trophy America and GT4 America series. With temperatures soaring and storms rolling through, the team battled adversity and came away with a class win, an additional podium, and a continued push in the championship hunt.

The weekend began with heartbreak as an incident during practice sidelined the No. 3 McLaren Trophy America entry of George Lawrence. After being transported to a local hospital for evaluation, Lawrence was released and is expected to make a full recovery.

In the McLaren Trophy America doubleheader, the No. 18 McLaren Artura driven by Brandon Kreutz and Canaan O’Connell continued to show consistent pace. Kreutz started from fourth in class in race one and capitalized on a mistake by the No. 17 car, moving up before handing the car to O’Connell at the halfway mark. A late-race full-course caution brought the field back together, and O’Connell held on to secure a third-place finish.

O’Connell took the opening stint in race two, working his way through traffic with several close battles before handing the car over to Kreutz. With 25 minutes remaining, Kreutz rejoined just as a caution period once again compressed the field. The team brought home a fourth-place finish, marking another solid points haul in the championship.

In GT4 America competition, Zach Lumsden made his series debut in the No. 143 BMW M4 GT4, with veteran Kris Wilson stepping in for Craig Lumsden. Race one started dry but quickly turned chaotic as heavy rain drenched the circuit on the opening lap. The race was red-flagged and later resumed under caution, offering minimal green-flag running. The pair finished eighth in the Am class.

Race two proved to be a dramatic turnaround. Zach started eighth and held position through his stint, gaining valuable experience navigating the multi-class field. Wilson took over at the halfway point and charged forward, crossing the line in second place. Following a post-race penalty to the race winner, the No. 143 BMW was promoted to first place, earning Flying Lizard Motorsports their first GT4 America win with the BMW platform.

The team will return to action in both championships at Road America, August 15–17.
