The Florida Governor’s Cup 200 – New Smyrna Speedway

The crown jewel finale brings the ASA Southern Super Series to the Sunshine State for the 60th running of the Florida Governor’s Cup at New Smyrna Speedway. A staple of Florida short track racing the Governor’s Cup has been won by many of the sport’s most legendary names from Ed Howe to Dick Trickle.

The event was first held at Golden Gate Speedway where it quickly became one of the premier Super Late Model events in the Southeast. After more than a decade at Golden Gate, the race moved briefly to Showtime Speedway for one year, returned to Golden Gate for three more seasons, then shifted back to Showtime for another three-year stint. In 1988, the Governor’s Cup found its permanent home at New Smyrna Speedway, where it has been held ever since.

Following the Florida Governor’s Cup teams will have a few weeks off before heading to Pensacola, FL for the biggest race in short track racing, the Snowball Derby.
