Four Divisions Set for Logan County Fair Night of Thunder at Lincoln Speedway
Taco Bell DIRTcar Modifieds headline Friday, August 7 program featuring DIRTcar Sportsman, Crown Vics and DIRTcar Hornets
LINCOLN, Ill. — Four divisions of dirt track racing will take center stage at Lincoln Speedway on Friday, August 7, during the Logan County Fair Night of Thunder. The annual fair race will feature the Taco Bell DIRTcar Modifieds, DIRTcar Sportsman, Crown Vics and DIRTcar Hornets.
Headlining the program will be the Taco Bell DIRTcar Modifieds, where Mason City, Illinois driver Brian Lynn enters the night as the division point leader. Lynn has one feature win, three top-five finishes and four top-10 results through six features, giving him a 24-point advantage over his son, Austin Lynn.
Austin Lynn has been one of the most consistent drivers in the division with four top-five finishes in five starts. Brandon Roberts of Ashland sits third in the standings and leads the class with two feature victories, while Springfield’s Brian Diveley occupies fourth after recording three top-five finishes.
Taylorville’s Carter Sinkhorn completes the top five in Modified points. Other drivers currently inside the top 10 include Ray Bollinger, Marshall Call, Shawn Vaughn, Alan Crowder and Steven Brooks. Call has also earned a feature victory this season, giving the division several proven winners heading into Friday’s event.
The DIRTcar Sportsman division has produced a close championship battle through its first two Lincoln Speedway appearances. Colby Eller, last year’s champion, of Taylorville leads the standings after scoring one victory and two top-five finishes.
Springfield’s Roy Magee and Grove City’s Brandon Hamm are tied for second, just 12 points behind Eller. Tim Riech sits fourth, while Ed Cleeton, winner of the division’s other feature this season, is fifth. Cole Landers and Wes O’Dell complete the current Sportsman standings.
The Crown Vics will bring another competitive field to the quarter-mile, led by Jeff Hall of Peoria Heights. Hall has won two of the first three features and holds a 16-point lead over Springfield’s Tom Eskew.
Austin Charron sits only two points behind Eskew in third, while Lincoln drivers Aidan Crowell and Bob Sanders occupy fourth and fifth. Crowell, the defending Lincoln Speedway Crown Vic champion, remains within 30 points of the lead.
The rest of the Crown Vic top 10 includes Justin Miller, Devin Dilley, Brian Deavers, Andrew Ingram and Chris Basso, with several of those drivers separated by only a handful of points.
The DIRTcar Hornets return after making their previous appearance during the Ed Cain Trucking Memorial. Derrick DeFord of Canton won that feature, followed by Hunter Kelley, Kenny Butterfield, Brandon Justice and Billy Mason.
Other top-10 finishers from that event included Shane Kelley, Cole Reed, Matthew Mackey Jr., Nick Johnson and Ben McChristy. With no season championship being awarded in the Hornet class, Friday’s race will be all about taking home the Night of Thunder feature victory.
The Logan County Fair Night of Thunder combines a full evening at the fair with four divisions of racing at Lincoln Speedway. Carnival rides open at 5:00 p.m., hot laps begin at 6:00 p.m. and racing starts at 7:00 p.m.
Grandstand admission is $10, with children 6 and under admitted free in general admission. Grandstand tickets and pit passes will be sold at the track on race day.
