Sunday, April 15, 2007 – On this day in history, NASCAR Cup Series driver Jeff Burton, driving for Richard Childress Racing, led just the final lap when he stole the win from Roush Fenway Racing’s Matt Kenseth in the NASCAR Cup Series race at Texas Motor Speedway. The last lap win was Burton’s only victory in 2007 and the 19th of his 21 win career.
Thursday, April 15, 1971 – On this day in history, NASCAR Hall of Famers Richard Petty and Benny Parsons lapped the field and finished 1-2, respectively, in the NASCAR Cup Series race at Smokey Mountain Speedway in Maryville, Tennessee. Petty led 134 laps of the 200 lap race. Petty hoisted 21 trophies and took home the NASCAR Cup Series championship for the third time in his career in 1971.
