Kyle Larson Unveils Darlington Throwback Paint Scheme Honoring NASCAR Champ Terry Labonte

As reported by WMBF, one of NASCAR’s current stars is throwing things back to the 2000s with an upcoming paint scheme.

NASCAR Cup Series star Kyle Larson unveiled his No. 5 car Wednesday at Darlington Raceway that will be used in next weekend’s Goodyear 400.

The paint scheme, part of NASCAR’s Throwback Weekend, features a paint scheme honoring the former Kellogg’s design of two-time Cup Series champion Terry Labonte.

The art is similar to the Tony the Tiger theme of Labonte’s 2003 model that year’s Southern 500 in Darlington. Instead of Kellogg’s, however, the branding is from Larson’s race team, Hendrick Motorsports.

Larson said honoring the past in Darlington is meaningful for his team, and being able to pay homage to those who raced before him is something he looks forward to each year.

“It’s just fun,” he said. “It suits our team well, it suits my driving style well, it always has, but it just feels like a real racetrack to me, and the crowd here feels like real race fans.”

The Goodyear 400 is on April 6 at 3 p.m. at Darlington Raceway.
