BECHTELSVILLE, PA. – There was a repeat winner and a first time winner in an entertaining night of racing action on Macmillan Oil Company of Allentown night Saturday at Grandview Speedway.
Louden Reimert of Oley, Pa. charged forward from ninth starting spot and secured the lead from Ryan Graver of Lehighton, Pa. on a ninth lap restart, then withstood several mid-race restarts, which enabled him to race home with his third T.P. Trailers & Truck Equipment NASCAR Modified win of the season at Grandview Speedway.
Johnny Fugelo of Norristown, Pa. a first year competitor in the T.P. Trailers & Truck Equipment NASCAR Sportsman division, started fifth, worked the outside lane of the speedway steadily picking off positions, then secured the lead with a pass of Taylor Kramer of Coopersburg, Pa. on lap eight, then withstood a scare with some late race lapped traffic and a fast closing Dakota Kohler of Kutztown, Pa. to score his first career win at Grandview Speedway.
The winners received bonus money (Modified $300, Sportsman $200) from T.P. Trailers and Truck Equipment of Limerick, Pa., sponsors of the two divisions at Grandview Speedway in a race program run under the NASCAR Local Racing Series Powered by O’Reilly Auto Parts banner and sponsored by Macmillan Oil Company of Allentown.
The 30-lap T.P. Trailers & Truck Equipment Modified feature saw Kenny Bock of Birdsboro, Pa. grabbing the early lead, while Ryan Graver, Mike Laise of Pottstown, Pa., Mike Lisowski of Minersville, Pa., Craig Whitmoyer of Hamburg, Pa. and Craig Von Dohren of Oley, Pa. all battled for the top positions.
The feature was sprinkled with numerous cautions, more than usual this season, continually regrouping the field and slowing the very competitive action for positions throughout the top ten spots, with Graver taking the lead from Bock off of turn four to score lap four.
Reimert reached the top five by lap five, and just took second before a lap eight caution set up a restart, which saw Reimert take the lead from Graver as the field raced off turn four.
Once in front Reimert would maintain a small but safe lead, while the action behind him was very intense with a lot of positions being exchanged as Jared Umbenhauer of Richland, Pa. and Jeff Strunk of Bechtelsville, Pa. were working their way forward, only to encounter problems, sending both to the pits and back out to the rear of the field to start over.
Logan Watt of Boyertown, Pa. who started fourteenth, Eddie Strada of Lake Ariel, Pa. who started fifteenth, and Rick Laubach of Quakertown, Pa. who started nineteenth, were also moving forward.
By halfway, Reimert led while Graver ran second followed by a great multi-car battle with Lisowski, Watt, Von Dohren, Laubach, Strada and Mike Gular of Harleysville, Pa.
By lap twenty Watt reached second to chase after Reimert, while Graver and Laubach battled, followed by Lisowski and Strada, and another battle between Von Dohren, Gular and Anthony Perrego of Montgomery, N.Y.
A final restart on lap twenty-one gave Watt a chance to challenge Reimert, but Reimert withstood the pressure to pull away to a safe advantage, while late race charges were being put on by Brett Kressley of Orefield, Pa. who started twenty-eighth and was motoring around the top lane of the speedway gaining positions, while Jeff Strunk was also charging through the pack after his mid-race pit stop.
At the checkered flag Reimert was in for his sixth career NASCAR Local Racing Series Powered by O’Reilly Auto Parts Grandview Speedway win, followed by Logan Watt, Rick Laubach, Eddie Strada, Jeff Strunk, Ryan Graver, Anthony Perrego, Brett Kressley, Mike Lisowski, and Craig Von Dohren.
Qualifying heats for the 40 cars on hand were won by Tim Buckwalter of Douglassville, Pa., Ryan Graver, Chris Esposito of Telford, Pa. and Jared Umbenhauer while Dylan Swinehart of Fleetwood, Pa. and Ryan Watt of Boyertown, Pa. won the consolations.
The 25-lap T.P. Trailers & Truck Equipment Sportsman feature which ran caution free in a time of 7:01.18, saw Taylor Kramer take the early lead, while Shannon Slaughter of Lititz, Pa. and Stephen Laubach of Bangor, Pa. followed, while Johnny Fugelo began his charge forward running the top lane of the speedway.
Fugelo steadily moved forward and took the lead with a pass of Kramer on the high side exiting turn two on lap eight, while Slaughter, a fast advancing Dakota Kohler, Laubach, and Mark Mohr of Gilbertsville, Pa. were all battling for the top spots.
By the half-way mark Fugelo built a safe lead, followed by Kramer and Kohler who were battling for second, with Slaughter, Laubach, Jordan Henn of Kutztown, Pa., Mohr and Kaitlyn Bailey of Alburtis, Pa., who were all fighting for the top ten spots.
Kohler was able to grab second on lap eighteen and chase after Fugelo, who reached lapped traffic with five laps to go, setting up an exciting final five laps of the feature.
With Kohler closing fast in the final laps, Fugelo was searching to find the right lane to work through traffic, but was able to maintain the lead in the final frantic laps to score his first career NASCAR Local Racing Series Powered by O’Reilly Auto Parts Grandview Speedway win.
Following Fugelo at the line were Dakota Kohler, Taylor Kramer, Jordan Henn, Shannon Slaughter, Mark Mohr, Stephen Laubach, TJ Mayberry of Sellersville, Pa., Addison Meitzler of Kempton, Pa., and Mike Butler of Bedminster, N.J.
Qualifying heats for the 48 cars on hand were won by Shannon Slaughter, Jordan Henn, Adrianna Delliponti of Norristown, Pa., Mark Mohr and Dakota Kohler, while Nick Van Wickle of Springfield, N.J. and Brad Brightbill of Sinking Spring, Pa. won the consolations.
Low Down Entertainment put on a series of one-on-one Match races for the T.P. Trailers & Truck Equipment Sportsman for the top seven drivers in the current point standings, along with the three fastest drivers from hot laps not in the top seven in points.
In the final round, Colin Cox of Perkasie, Pa. defeated Joe Toth of Upper Makefield, Pa. to pick up a $500 paycheck from MB Roofing and a bottle of Inferno Armor from Baer’s Inferno Armor.
