Ryan Huff Eyes Redemption at Talladega Superspeedway After Daytona Disappointment

TALLADEGA, Ala: Veteran ARCA Menards Series driver Ryan Huff has welcomed the two-month break between Daytona and Talladega — not just for preparation, but to cool off emotionally after a gut-wrenching start to his season.

Arriving at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway in February, Huff believed he had one of the best cars he’d ever taken to the 2.5-mile superspeedway. But he never even got the chance to turn a lap.

Just minutes before the series was scheduled to begin practice for the Ride the Dente 200, rain swept across the track. The session was ultimately canceled, qualifying was replaced with practice, and owner points set the field.

With limited participation in the ARCA Menards Series in 2024, Huff didn’t have the owner points to fall back on, leaving him on the outside looking in, unable to compete in the 80-lap season opener.

Frustrated and heartbroken, Huff, 24, left the “World Center of Racing” unsure if he’d ever return to the series.

“I was so mad because Daytona means so much to me, my team, and my dreams,” Huff admitted. “But I’m a racer, and I’m not going to let circumstances out of my control dictate my future.”

With his mindset reset and focus forward, Huff is ready for redemption in this weekend’s General Tire 200 at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway.

Huff, a native of Williamsburg, Va., returns to the 2.66-mile Talladega Superspeedway for the first time since the 2022 ARCA Menards Series season. That spring, he started 26th and charged to an impressive eighth-place finish — one of six career top-10s in ARCA competition.

“My spotter meant everything to me at Talladega in 2022,” Huff recalled. “It’s so important to have the eyes and ears of someone you trust, and I was fortunate to have an experienced NASCAR Cup Series spotter helping me guide the chaos of that race.”

This time around, Huff believes he’s even better equipped for success.

“I feel like the car we are bringing to the track is better than what we had in 2022, and that has me really pumped up,” he said.

Unlike Daytona, where weather and points kept him from making the race, Huff is locked into the field for Saturday’s General Tire 200.

While qualifying won’t be held, the Virginian is guaranteed a spot and will make his 19th career ARCA Menards Series start, though he’ll once again have to work his way forward from deep in the lineup.

“I wish we could qualify, but these Talladega rules have been implemented for years, so we’ll just make the best of it,” Huff noted. “Maybe it will work to our advantage. No matter what, though, we need to bide our time, exercise some patience and hope for the best.”

During the offseason, Huff secured a new partnership with Commonwealth Equipment, a leading provider of material processing machinery. The company will serve as the primary partner of his No. 36 Ford Fusion for Saturday’s 76-lap event at Talladega.

Since 1999, Commonwealth Equipment has been the driving force behind the toughest crushing and screening operations across the Eastern United States.

“I cannot begin to say enough about how important this partnership with Commonwealth Equipment, is especially after everything that happened at Daytona,” added Huff. “Everyone in the Motorsports industry is, but to see a company like Commonwealth Equipment expand their footprint and believe in the power of business-to-business opportunities and partner with Ryan Huff Motorsports is incredible.

“They are used to moving mountains, and we plan to move some mountains of our own on the race track on Saturday and contend for a strong and satisfying finish.

“We believe that we can beneficially showcase Commonwealth Equipment both on and off the track, which will hopefully expand this partnership for more races later this season.”

Gary Guthrie, president of Commonwealth Equipment, concurs.

“This partnership is a perfect fit,” offered Guthrie. “Ryan’s drive and ambition in both business and racing align with our own core values. Our team is excited to provide the high-performance equipment his company needs to thrive while also supporting his passion for racing. It’s more than just business — it’s about fueling success and having some fun along the way.

“While Commonwealth Equipment is focused on supporting Ryan’s growing wood processing needs, the partnership extends beyond the business realm. Commonwealth Equipment proudly supports Ryan’s racing endeavors.

“This partnership is a natural extension of Commonwealth’s commitment to high performance, speed, and precision, values that align seamlessly with Ryan’s approach both in the environmental industry and on the race track.”

Since 2020, Huff has 18 career ARCA Menards Series starts to his credit, with one top-five (fifth at Kansas Speedway, September 2022) and six top-10 finishes. In five years of ARCA competition, he maintains an average finishing position of 14.6.

The General Tire 200 (76 laps | 202 miles) is the third of 20 races on the 2025 ARCA Menards Series schedule. Practice begins Fri., April 25, 2025, with a one-hour session from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. The field will take the green flag shortly after 11:30 a.m., on Saturday, April 26, 2025. The event will be televised live on FOX Sports 1 (FS1), with the Motor Racing Network (MRN) and SiriusXM Satellite Radio NASCAR Channel 90 handling the radio waves. ARCARacing.com will also stream live timing and scoring throughout the entire weekend festivities.
