Wednesday, September 28, 2022 – Highlands, NJ – Vasser Sullivan driver Frankie Montecalvo is ready to take on the final round of the IMSA Weathertech Sportscar Championship – Petit Le Mans. Montecalvo will contest the ten-hour endurance race with co-drivers Aaron Telitz and Richard Heistand.
The race marks the 25th Anniversary of the Motul Petit Le Mans at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta. Montecalvo has scored multiple top-five finishes at Petit Le Mans and a third place in 2021 but has yet to bring home a win. That’s something he’s hoping to change this weekend.
“I’m excited to get back to Road Atlanta for the final race of the season. It’s a track that works well for our Lexus RC F GT3, and it’s one of my favorite tracks on the calendar,” said Montecalvo.
“We had the opportunity to test there a few weeks ago, and as always, the Vasser Sullivan crew was able to get our car set up exceptionally well to get us ready for this week. The Lexus likes fast speed circuits with a lot of flowing corners, and Road Atlanta has all of the above.”
The weekend will present a unique set of challenges as the 2.54-mile circuit is projected to see multiple inches of rain as a byproduct from Hurricane Ian.
“We’ve seen in the past that our No. 12 Lexus performs well in the rain, so we’ll be ready for whatever comes our way. The Lexus also likes cooler temperatures, so the rain plus the cooler temps that are likely to follow will suit us well. At that point, two of the biggest challenges become managing traffic and keeping the car clean.”
“We haven’t seen the top step of the podium this season. It would be a great to close the year to come away with our first victory of the season in Atlanta. We’ve finished on the podium multiple times at Petit Le Mans over the years, but never in first place. I have no doubt that we have the team and the driver line up of Aaron, Richard and me to get us there. We are all determined to finish the year strong, and we’ll be pushing as hard as ever to cross the finish line first on Saturday night.”
On track action for the Motul Petit Le Mans begins Thursday, September 28 and continues through Saturday. The green flag flies at 12:10 PM ET on Saturday, October 1. You can watch Frankie race live with coverage beginning at 12:00 PM ET on NBC Network until 3:00 PM ET. You can catch the final hours of the race on USA Network beginning at 7:00 PM ET.
