Stan Mertz Racing Set For NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour Debut at Monadnock Speedway

WHITINSVILLE, Mass. – After many years of racing across different disciplines, Stan Mertz Racing will make their NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour debut this Saturday, May 6 at Monadnock Speedway. With Woody Pitkat behind the wheel of the Koopman Lumber No. 6, the team feels confident going into the event.

Pitkat is a former winner and champion with Stan Mertz Racing. Winning the Thompson Speedway Sunoco Modified championship in 2015 and also winning the Twisted Tea Open Modified race at Stafford Motor Speedway together, the combination has put together plenty of success. As a reunion, they have partnered together for the final season for Stan Mertz Racing looking to go out with a bang with a part-time schedule on NASCAR’s oldest touring series.

Pitkat has four career wins to his credit on the Whelen Modified Tour and is second on the all-time wins list at Stafford – winning multiple Open Modified events there last year. The Monadnock Duel at the Dog 200 will be the first of two Whelen Modified Tour events this month for Stan Mertz Racing – also including Lee USA Speedway’s Granite State Derby on May 27. Both events are promoted by JDV Productions.

“It’s been on our bucket list for many years and entering what will be my final year of racing as a car owner I’m excited to make the move to the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour,” team owner Stan Mertz said. “We have to thank all of our sponsors for coming on board and our dedicated crew for making it all possible. We’re looking forward to contending for strong runs and hope to come away with the Whelen Granite State Short Track Cup as part of our part-time Whelen Modified Tour efforts in 2023.”

The Whelen Granite State Short Track Cup is a three-race series, promoted by JDV Productions, with bonus awards (monetary) on the line for competitors who compete in all three races at Monadnock (May 6), Lee (May 27) and Claremont Motorsports Park (July 29). The special grouping includes a point fund for the top-three finishers in points.

Saturday’s race at Monadnock includes one practice session for the Whelen Modified Tour from 12:20-1:20 p.m., followed by Mayhew Tools qualifying at 2:30 p.m. and the drop of the green flag at 5 p.m. The race will be live, along with all of the events for the weekend, on FloRacing.TV.
